Because of the presence of magnesium and other chemicals, firefighters from Albany, Hamilton Township and the Delaware County Airport Authority are spraying fire-suppressing foam on the blaze. Other fire departments have been asked to provide mutual aid.
According to witnesses at the scene, no employees of the aluminum die casting factory were in the building at the time the blaze began. An employee said a group of 10 workers heard a thunderclap and evacuated a nearby building. A line of heavy rain was moving through the area at approximately the time the fire began.
By just before 6:30 p.m., no flames were visible from the building but thick white smoke was pouring out. A portion of the roof of the building where the fire was burning was partially collapsed.
